An important part of animal conservation is creating sustainable captive populations, and for the proper maintenance and breeding of animals, it is essential that they be handled by professionals who know the basics of zookeeping and understand the biology of the species. During the course the trainees will get acquainted with the modern views on the keeping of polar bears in captivity, learn about the state of the wild population of bears and how they are studied and protected, and get an idea about the qualities that are necessary for the competent care of these animals in zoos. In the practical sessions, students will learn how to apply what they have learned in their work with animals.
